PCIU - Pittsburgh Center for International Understanding

About Us

The Pittsburgh Center for International Understanding provides opportunities and funding for Pittsburgh youth to work overseas on grassroots projects focusing on the development of some of the most impoverished regions of the globe.  Current areas of involvement include education, health and sanitation, and women’s and children’s projects.  Our volunteers teach at schools, assist doctors at rural hospitals, and are involved in grassroots programs in needy areas of the world.

In addition, PCIU seeks to link Pittsburgh area businesses, particularly women entrepreneurs, who can mentor and guide women in India, Pakistan, Malawi, and other developing nations, who wish to set up small businesses with loans and technical assistance provided by PCIU.

For more information regarding volunteer programs for college students and adults, please contact as at volunteer@pciu.org.  We are also starting a pilot project to take high school juniors and seniors to work on site at an ongoing project in India.
