Kamana Mathur, Executive Director
After over 20 years working in various parts of the globe as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State, a journalist, and an Immigration Attorney, Kamana moved to Pittsburgh in 2007. Kamana has a B.A. in Economics from Lady Shri Ram University in New Delhi and a Juris Doctor from George Washington University School of Law.
Working with like-minded individuals in Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., and other parts of the globe, Kamana is a founding member of the Pittsburgh Center of International Understanding. Kamana focuses on PCIU’s women’s programs.

Shankar Lakhavani, Secretary
Originally from Sindh, one of the most impoverished and neglected regions of Pakistan, Shankar moved to Pittsburgh 25 years ago. A long-time champion of the rights of Sindhis, Shankar is the founder member of several international Sindhi organizations. An Engineer by profession, Shankar has M.S. degrees in Electrical & Manufacturing Engineering and is a certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt. He currently works for Eaton Corporation. Shankar heads PCIU’s Sindh initiative.

Arti Nigam, Treasurer
A licensed clinical psychologist practicing in the bay area, Arti’s interests are education, music, child welfare, cultural identity, preservation of indigenous cultures, and counteracting the effects of oppression. Arti received her PhD from the University of Delaware, and completed postdoctoral work at Yale University School of Medicine. Arti heads PCIU’s Children’s Programs.
